Modern Beach House

In this 1950s ground floor redesign concept, I opted to completely open things up creating a modern beach-inspired home ready for entertaining. I used a monochromatic colour scheme that features mainly white hues as the base, along with accents of varying shades of blue and warm woods giving the overall space a bright, airy, and modern coastal feel.

In the kitchen, high-gloss white wall cabinets, white quartz countertops & a geometric tile backsplash provide a sleek modern appeal that is balanced against the warm wood textures repeated throughout the space. The injection of blues in the lower cabinetry, island pendants & bar stool fabric are reminiscent of the ocean.

In the WC, white hues again set the tone for the space, while warm wood textures help to balance the modern edge that is present in the geometric shapes and sleek finishes throughout.  The floor to ceiling herringbone wall tile in a deep navy creates a bold feature, while the framed art gives an abstract representation of the sea, tying together all of the colours used throughout.

The window reading area features a full wall of custom built-in bookshelves that are designed to sit flush with the window frame creating a deep sill and comfortable bench seat. The ripplefold curtains whose colours are a perfect ocean rain storm of indigo blue, mist, taupe, grey and sand tie in both the colours of the bench seat fabric below, as well as the oversized pillows that rest in the window capturing the overall modern, beachy vibe of the home.

The living room, with its white walls, large mid-century inspired sectional & chunky hand braided rug in soft grey hues set the tone for a welcoming lounge space. The cool colours are balanced by the wood textures incorporated throughout the furniture.  The custom loveseat, upholstered in a rich navy blue velvet brings an element of cozy sophistication to the space while keeping with the monochromatic scheme.  Additional blue accents are incorporated in the throw blanket and pillows. The antique gold finishes on the light fixtures are reminiscent of the colour of sand, while the shell and coral decor accessories add a final element of coastal tranquility.
